CHARACTER INFO

Character Name:Piper McLean
Character Canon: Heroes of Olympus

History: Wiki Link

AU History: Piper's father is a famous actor, well known both for his own talent and the close bond he shares with his Pokemon. She's never known her mother - her father doesn't talk about her, and even to this day Piper is unsure if she's dead or if she just left. Because of this, she's always wanted to be close to her father, but his work schedule has always kept the time they have together brief.

She's always had trouble in school, and her scores, especially on really important tests are low average at the very best. Hungry for attention she's been in and out of trouble for many years, and it's gotten to the point she's almost convinced she'll never be able to contribute to the city. She's never expressed much interest in Pokemon training, but recently she's come to think it might be her last chance to make something of herself. And if it takes her out of the city and out from under her father's shadow, so much the better.

Canon Personality: Piper's life before going to the Wilderness School was very much defined by the fact that she was the daughter of Tristin McLean, famous actor and Hollywood heartthrob. Since her mother isn't in the picture (being a goddess and all), Piper's spent a lot of time in the care of paid nannies and/or his father's personal assistant, which has just made her treasure the short times she does spend with her father all the more. She's very hungry for his approval, but she'd discovered that in a pinch just his attention will do. She doesn't mean to get into trouble, but when she gets bored and lonely, trouble just... tends to happen.

It doesn't help that she can be very convincing, both as a function of her charmspeak power and her own charisma. She often got into trouble by talking salespeople into letting her 'borrow' things like power tools or even cars. Unfortunately once out of the presence of the salespeople the charmspeak aspect wore off and she would get reported for stealing. Which did usually have the desired effect of getting her father to pay attention to her, just not in the best sort of way.

Piper can have trouble getting along with other people. She doesn't like admitting who her father is, because it tends to make people stop caring about her as her own person and just focus on who her father is. As she's gotten older, it's also become awkward because many of her female peers will obsess over how 'hot' her father is, and she finds that exceedingly awkward. He's her *dad*, she doesn't want to think of people thinking of him like that. And yet she understands that his attractiveness has played a huge part in him having the successful career he's had, and thus the lifestyle he's been able to provide Piper. Nevertheless, when possible, she prefers people not know who her father is.

Because she's constantly under her father's shadow, Piper is rather insecure in herself. Though she's naturally very attractive, as all children of Aphrodite are, she does her best to downplay it, wearing baggy clothes and keeping her hair cut choppy and short. She's not sure what she has to offer the world, and her whole character arc in canon is centered around her learning she does have skills to offer her friends and the world at large.

Buried under the insecurity however, is a girl with a strong sense of fairness, and a true loyalty to her friends. She might see herself as the weakest link in a group, but she works her hardest to pull her weight in an quest or activity, and she would never abandon or betray them. Because her biggest strength is talking, she's likewise often the one to suggest trying diplomacy before going in swinging.

AU Deviation: The biggest deviation is that Piper in this AU hasn't met Leo and Jason (yet?) and thus has neither a best friend nor a boyfriend. In fact, she is if anything more closed off because it's harder to escape her father's shadow. Since she's done poorly in school and doesn't see herself as having a lot of useful skills, she really wants to find a way to prove herself, possibly to a reckless degree. She's also less self conscious about her physical appearance, since she's not the daughter of the goddess of beauty here.

Canon Abilities:
Charmspeak - Piper can be supernaturally convincing, and can convince or influence people (and mythological creatures and even gods on occasion) to do what she tells them.

Daughter of Aphrodite - She is naturally exceedingly beautiful, and has the ability to attract people just by walking by. She can also make minor changes to her physical appearance, such as changing her eye color.

Katoptris - Originally the dagger of Helen of Troy, Piper can occasionally get glimpses of the future in the flat of the blade.

Enlightened Abilities:
To start, Piper is Normal Type, with the Kindred Soul ability and the moves Captivate, Covet and Echoed Voice

With her first evolution she'll gain the Psychic type, and the moves Hypnosis, Psycho Shift, and Confusion

If possible, I'd like her second evolution to grant her the ability Child of Verdant Forest

Physically, with her first evolution her hair will gain a noticeable shine, like she was in a shampoo commercial and her skin will be perfectly clear, with a healthy glow, no matter how she's feeling or what she'd been doing. Her second evolution will add just the right shading and tone to her skin to make it appear that she's wearing the exactly perfect sort of makeup for the situation.

SAMPLES

First-Person:
-What do you feel your role in Union is?
[A short, self-deprecating laugh] Yea, I wish I knew. I mean, I'm kinda terrible in school, and I'm not really talented in anything useful. I mean, I guess I'm good at talking my way out of trouble... And into it if I'm being honest. But that doesn't really seem that useful, especially since I don't really know enough to go into political stuff. That's why I'm trying out this trainer thing. Maybe it'll prove t'be something I'm good at and I can help out by exploring or something. [A shrug] It's worth a try, right?

-To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
Probably pretty much anything. I mean, if I've promised someone I'll travel and work with them, it's my duty to help them out if they're in trouble, right? I mean, maybe if rescuing them was really, really dangerous I might find some help first, but I'd still feel obligated to be a part of the rescue.

-A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
Well, I suppose it depends on why the human attacked the Pokemon. I mean, if the person did it just to be mean or something, I'd defend the Pokemon. But if it was just a misunderstanding, I'd probably try to see if I could talk both of them out of attacking long enough to figure out what the misunderstanding was and fix it. I hate fighting when there's no purpose.

-When encountering a rare and powerful Pokémon, what is most important? Researching it, bonding with it, or defeating it? Why?
I'd say bonding with it, but if it's super rare and powerful, I doubt I'd really have much of a chance with that. But if someone else could, that would probably be best. I mean, you can't really know how a Pokemon thinks and stuff until you bond with it, right? I suppose if no one could bond with it, then researching's the next best thing. I don't see what the point of defeating it would be unless it was threatening people or the city or something. Even then, it's probably just doing that because it thinks we're threatening it or something, so wouldn't it be better for someone to bond to it and figure out what's wrong?

Third-Person:
Piper woke up, but she lay very still, straining her ears. Surely she'd be able to hear someone moving around in the kitchen. A quick sideways glance at her clock showed it to be nine in the morning, surely by now her father was up and making breakfast. But no matter how still she held or how hard she listened, she couldn't hear anything. No. This couldn't be happening again. She rolled over and pulled the covers over her head. It was so totally unfair. It was her birthday. Her father couldn't manage to even make her breakfast on her birthday. Even though she'd been half expecting it, she could feel tears start to form in the corners of her eyes. She squeezed her eyes tighter shut, forcing herself to take deep breaths until she was pretty sure she wasn't going to cry. Then she forced her eyes open and sit up. Sure enough there was a note sitting on her bedside table. With a resigned sigh she picked it up and read it.

Dearest Piper,
I am so, so sorry I am not able to be here for your birthday. Unfortunately, the skies are clear today, and the company's been waiting for weeks to have a clear morning to shoot this new commercial, and sadly, things like birthdays matter little to people like them. I will sent Maria over with doughnuts from that shop you like. She will also be bringing your birthday present. I only wish I was able to give it to you myself.

I hope to be home for dinner. Take care of yourself and try to stay out of trouble. I love you very much.

-Your Dearest Dad

Piper crumpled the note in her hand and threw it across the room as hard as she could. It bounced off her bookshelf and rolled under the desk just as there was a knock on the door. Piper sighed and got up. Maria would let herself in of course, but she should at least be somewhat presentable. She pulled on a pair of sweatpants and grabbed a sweater from the floor that was mostly clean, and went out into the kitchen where Maria had just set down the box of doughnuts.

"Happy Birthday, Miss McLean," Maria said with a polite nod. She looked over at Piper and frowned, obviously disapproving of Piper's choice of clothing. Well fine. Not everyone could be perfectly put together all the time like Ms Maria Johnson.

Piper pointedly ignored Maria's disapproval and grabbed a doughnut from the box and bit into it before asking "So Dad said you were bringing a present?"

"Don't talk with your mouth full," Maria said with a disapproving sniff before picking up the other box on the counter and holding it out to Piper. The box was quivering slightly, like something was moving inside it. Piper set her doughnut down and took the box carefully. Before she could lift the lid, it popped off and an Eevee poked its head over the box's rim.

"A Pokemon?" she said, setting the box down and picking up the Eevee. It made a happy sound and cuddled into her arms as she held it close to her chest.

"Your father thought you were old enough to have a Pokemon of your own," Marie said with that tone that Piper had come to realize meant the woman was parroting what Piper's father had told her. "He said he hoped it would help you grow and find your true potential." From her expression on the last bit, it was obvious she didn't have a high opinion of Piper's potential. In all honesty, Piper had never thought much about having a Pokemon of her own, but if Marie didn't like the idea, it must be worth a try.

"I'm going to call you Amore," she said to the Eevee, scratching it behind its long ears and pointedly ignoring Marie. "And I'm sure we'll be the best of friends."
